Daar struikel je dus over, zelfs als je er niet naar op zoek was. Tempels, of Wats zoals ze hier in Zuid-Oost Azie heten. Chiang Mai staat bekend om zijn indrukwekkende verzameling boeddhistische tempels. Verspreid door de stad en omgeving vind je tientallen eeuwenoude "wats", elk met unieke architectuur en een eigen sfeer. Belangrijkste tempels in de stad zijn Wat Phra Singh en Wat Chedi Luang. Op de berg ligt Wat Doi Suthep, of kortweg Wat Suthep.
